7 Seconds helped to spearhead the movement of idealistic hardcore bands in the '80s. Loud and abrasive, the band nonetheless kept its focus on postive messages rather than the typical nihilism of hardcore. Later incarnations of the band would move closer to rock'n'roll and pop, though the band would return to its hardcore roots.
