Black Flag defined the sound of Southern California hardcore, featuring fast, crunchy guitars and tight snare patterns. More pioneering than the band's musical side was its ideolgical stance: capturing the anger and rage of many bored, middle class youth, Black Flag's music proved to be the spark needed to ignite the undercurrents of anger in the punk scene, pushing the abrasive aspects of punk rock to its limits.
