Building on Southern California hardcore, the Circle Jerks played fast and energetic punk rock emphasizing speed and feel over technique and subtlety. Ex-Black Flag front man Kieth Morris' post-Flag project, the Circle Jerks take a more lighthearted approach to hardcore than Black Flag did. Though unpolished, the Jerks nonetheless created a following for themselves based upon their outrageous lyrics and high-strung performances.
