Damned
Of the first generation of British punk bands, the Damned were the most outrageous. The first punk band to issue a single, with "New Rose" barely edging the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the U.K." out for that disctinction. A mix of punk energy and over-the-top theatrics, the Damned's sound captured both the silly side and the driving push of early punk. Later albums would move away from the band's punk roots to explore stripped-down post-punk and Gothic sounds.

The Damned would emerge from a 15-year hiatus from the studio in 2001 with Grave Disorder.
