>> Descendents

Pop punk forerunners, the Descendents mixed elements of punk, hardcore, surf and pop to create a sound with the spunk of Southern California punk, though easier on the ears. With jangly guitars an equal mix of surf and pop, the Descedents demonstrated that Californian punk didn’t hinge upon feedback and impossible speeds. Generally shying away from political topics, the Descendents covered topics such as young love and their ever-continuing quest for food. Pioneers of American pop punk, the Descendents influenced generations of later pop punkers.
