Einstürzende Neubauten began its career as one of Germany's most uncompromising industrial acts. Mixing the clang of percussion sounds generated by smacking metal pipes, cannisters and other objects with a screeching fury of pure industrial, the band's early work is still shocking years after it was released.

As the band aged, it moved toward softer, more ambient arrangements and sounds, though never let its background of experimental, electronic music get too far removed from its sound.

Singer Blixa Bargeld also plays guitar in Nick Cave's Bad Seeds.
