Knocking out modern rock blending punk, rock and indie influences, the Foo Fighters' sound varies from soft and mellow to aggressive and uptight, though most often focuses on its more reserved side. Led by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, singing and playing guitar in this band, the Foos also featured ex-Germs guitarist Pat Smear on its first two albums. While drawing on its members' experimental and aggressive backgrounds, the Foo Fighters prove to be the most commercial and mainstream act in its lineage.
