Gadjits
Built around the Phillips brothers who play guitar, bass and drums for the band, The Gadjits came to national attention after they caught the eye of Rancid's Tim Armstrong, who signed the young act (all its members were still in their teens when they inked their first contract) as one of the first bands on his Hellcat imprint. The Gadjits made a couple ska albums for Hellcat, though both avoided both the roots-driven traditional sound of most Hellcat ska bands or the jerky third-wave sound that was popular at the time. Instead, the band fused R&B and classic mod rock with ska to get a sound that was a step away from most of the fashions of the scene.

By 2001, however, the act had given up on ska, and moved on from Hellcat Records. With the addition of Mike Anderson of The Revolvers, the Gadjits came to embrace a straightforward rock style.
