>> Gene Loves Jezebel

Helping to define the early Gothic style, Gene Loves Jezebel’s early work features a moody and dark feel, which would land the band a permanent spot in Goth fans’ hearts. Later albums would venture further into standard pop territory, a turn which would drive founder Michael Aston in the late ‘80s. Continuing on, led by Michael’s twin brother Jay, GLJ pursues more pop-oriented directions. Aston would release albums as a solo artist and with the band Edith Grove before returning with his own version of Gene Loves Jezebel in 1999. With two separate bands now under the Gene Loves Jezebel mantle fans have a wide range to choose from—from Jay’s lineup’s poppier material to Michael Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel’s more experimental work.
