After a brief stint in Buzzcocks’ original lineup, Howard Devoto turned his attention to Magazine. Though incorporating many of the signatures of early punk, such as shredding, tinny guitars and heavy rhythms, Magazine also drew on more artistic sounds such as Television, pulling in atmospheric keyboards and more avant-garde arrangements. Magazine guitarist John McGeoch would later surface in later Public Image Ltd. lineups.
