>> Operation Ivy
Operation Ivy laid the foundations for later skacore acts, mixing the off-beat upstroke of ska guitars, rocksteady walking bass lines and explosive rhythms. Played at a pace more hectic than traditional ska, Operation Ivy's sound also emphasized harsher, punk-influenced guitar sounds and ventures into standard punk songwriting. Though the band would split by 1989, with memebers moving on to form Rancid, Operation Ivy's sound was the basis for much of the ska-punk revival of the '90s.
