Ramones
Buzzsaw guitars, simple drum beats and bass lines carrying melodies mark the trademark sound of the Ramones. Forming in New York in 1975, the Ramones' style combined the upbeat attitude of early rock'n'roll with a wild new energy. Though blatantly simple and amateurish, the band's sound made up in enthusiasm what it lacked in technical skill. Featuring lyrics with an odd sense of humor, the Ramones were soon cranking out music radically different from most any other band at the time. While other bands helped to lay punk's foundations, the Ramones crystalized the sound of the new genre and would inspire countless bands across the globe to pick up the punk banner.
