>> Spacemen 3
Spacemen 3 developed the droning twist on psychedelia that would become the basis for British space rock. Minimalist walls of distorted guitars and keys were played with fanatic simplicity, letting the chaos produced lead to harmonies of its own accord. Even though the act's avant-garde side bordered on outright experimentalism, the band was embraced by a surprisingly large following.
Relations in the band would strain and eventually fall apart by 1991; before that, songwriters Sonic Boom and Jason Pierce operated more or less independently for the band's final platter, Recurring. Shortly after Spacemen 3 disbanded, Pierce moved on to found Spiritualized.
