Duke Spirit Gets All Up in Target Exclusives

Partnering with an independent record store for an exclusive release? Way cool. Teaming up for an exclusive available at the same big-box store your mom buys discounted cosmetics? Eh, not so much.

Maybe you can ask her to pick up a copy of The Duke Spirit's upcoming Target exclusive album next time she's shopping. The album, which arrives in stores Feb. 24, remains untitled, but is a tie-in with an even bigger Target exclusive in mind: Affordable fashions inspired by Duke Spirit front woman Liela Moss and designed by Alexander McQueen.

"I am ecstatic to be an aspect of Alexander McQueen?s work," Moss said in a statement. "I have always been fascinated by the way he brings the raw, symbolic beauty of the natural world sharply into play with a regal, noble, architectural force. Thematically, The Duke Spirit and McQueen tread a similar path at times ... antlers, feathers and the stuff of the pastoral idyll, stumble into a loud, sweaty pit of punk rock."

The album collects some unreleased in the States tracks, a previously unreleased cover of Alex Chilton's "Baby Doll" and other previously available material. It follows up last year's Neptune (review) (Shangri-La), that, since it came off an independent label, was probably pretty tough to track down at Target.
