What's a bigger feat? Garbage coming off as a trip-hop outfit, or scoring a No. 1 hit with no video to promote the song?
A remixed version of Garbage's "#1 Crush" appeared on the soundtrack to William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet in 1996, and presented a view of the band more in line with Portishead's trip-hop than alt-pop. The world ate it up, sending the single to the top of the charts, despite the track getting virtually no MTV play. Some enterprising fan knocked together a pretty decent fill-in version using live footage and scenes from the film, though, so the lack of video's finally been rectified, in a way.
